VERNA LIEZL PERDON (She Her)

Registered Nurse – Occupational Health Nursing Certificate - 2020

What brought you to Mohawk College?

I chose Mohawk College because the program offered appeared to have the right elements to help me reach my goal of specializing in Occupational Health Nursing. I also felt it was a reputable college and would have a good selection of courses and quality instructors. I also felt that when I was researching and accessing the website online that it was user friendly.

Tell us about your favourite Mohawk experience?

My favourite experience was really engaging in class discussions online with other students and feeling connected. I was a mature student re-entering the academic setting which was nerve racking at first. Later and over time, I realized after taking courses that other students were on similar journeys.

What impact has Mohawk had on your life?

Mohawk College had a tremendous impact on my life. I ended up really enjoying the OHN program so much that I continued on with further education, completing both a Masters degree in Public Health (specializing in OHS) and Business Administration. Clearly, my positive experience with Mohawk College sparked my love for continuous lifelong learning. It also built my confidence to take additional graduate studies.

What are you up to now?

I am now a Mental Health and Psychological Safety Specialist (Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist) and work in the Construction sector for a national Canadian company. The Health, Safety and Well-being of all employees are a priority for me. Occupational health and safety, including mental health, have truly become a passion for me and I am proud of my team and the work that we do every day so that people stay healthy and safe.
