LYNN EDEY

Communication Arts - 1973

What brought you to Mohawk College?

I wanted to be a journalist and was accepted in the program that I hoped would set me on the path.

Tell us about your favourite Mohawk experience?

In my final semester I asked the head of the department if I could do an in-depth feature of reporting. He didn't agree and when I left his office in huff, the head of the advertising department overheard the conversation and pulled me aside. He said I should specialize in advertising because I was very good at it. I was so furious - I changed my final semester to advertising.

What impact has Mohawk had on your life?

I worked for over 40 years in advertising mostly specializing in the car business. My first two jobs in the advertising business were with fellow alumni. Then I was on the British Leyland account at R.T. Kelley in Hamilton. I then became the 1st national advertising/SP manager for SAAB cars in Canada. For the next 30 years, I went on to work for major international advertising agencies directing advertising for BMW, Mazda and Honda.

What are you up to now?

I left the Hamilton area in 1985 and moved to Toronto. I transferred to Vancouver in the '90s. I'm now retired and living on Vancouver Island. I volunteered at the local senior's village and am on the executive of the Comox branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
