Nursing (BScN) - 2023

What brought you to Mohawk College?

I started at Mohawk College in 2017, going through the Practical Nursing program in collaboration with McMaster Univeristy. I finished in December 2018 and graduated officially in 2019. Things were amazing! I started my first nursing job in Long Term Care and helped care for the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was tough with lockdowns and very ill residents, but our love for the job and their families kept us powering through! I then applied to go back to school and upgrade my nursing degree to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Nursing through the Mohawk and McMaster collaborative program in September 2020. I was stressed at work, dealing with the pandemic in the nursing home..while going back to nursing school full time, online! I changed my specialty in nursing from Long Term Care, to working at St Josephs Hospital in the Mental Health sector. I got this job after finishing a placement at Mohawk & Mac- thank you guys!! I loved my job at St Joes and learned so many new things while also going to school! I survived the extra 3 years of schooling and graduated officially again in Spring 2023!! I am now working at Hamilton Health Sciences in my new role of Registered Nurse. I am on a surgical oncology floor at the Juravinski Hospital and love all the opportunities my schooling in Hamilton has given me.

Tell us about your favourite Mohawk experience?

The Designer concert back in 2017! Loved feeling together as a Mohawk community and feeling welcomed in my first year out of high school.

What impact has Mohawk had on your life?

Mohawk has given me the freedom to always continue to learn, and never feel outcasted. I feel driven in my career and thank Mohawk for setting me up from the start.

What are you up to now?

I am now working at Hamilton Health Sciences in my new role of Registered Nurse. I am on a surgical oncology floor at the Juravinski Hospital :)
